Working Out Tags on Write.as

<![CDATA[I want to figure out how #tags work here, because they seem to be powerful little guys. Apologies if this post uses some tags gratuitously - it must seem like such a #pointless thing to do, and is #frustrating for readers, I'm sure.!--more--

I just don't have a lot of posts yet, because I'm learning about this blog, its possibilities, and where it can fit in alongside my #website, which already has its own very different style of blog. So I'm #abusing the few tags I've used thus far. I'll stop there for now. But I'm #NotGivingUp. I'll be back.

And I'm back :)

Tags are powerful, all right. Actually, did I read somewhere that tags should be all #lowercase? In which case, I'm #notgivingup.

Anyway, I wondered how to find the #rss feed address for a tag, and found Matt's reply to that very question in the forums:

Regarding RSS feeds for tags
blockquoteRSS readers will automatically detect it if you give them the URL of this page (it’s included in the page’s metadata). But to manually get to the feed, you’ll just add /feed/ to the URL/blockquote

Here's a frustrating RSS feed: https://write.as/johnarthurnichol/tag:frustrating/feed/

Tags as eBooks

If you have the #epub #addon, readers can #download, as an #ebook, a collection of your posts that share a tag. You just add .epub to the url of the tag page and that's the download link.

Here's a pointless epub to download: https://write.as/johnarthurnichol/tag:pointless.epub

Readers can download your whole blog as an epub, too. My blog makes for a very short ebook indeed, but you can download it anyway by clicking this link: https://write.as/johnarthurnichol/.epub.

Again, My Apologies

You know this stuff already. I know you know it. It's really for my own benefit that I'm putting the details here. I always, always forget #howto do things and, invariably, by the time I realise I've forgotten how to do something, I've also forgotten where I put the #instructions on how to do that something.

Now I just have to select the #howto tag in my own blog. I hope I'll #rememberthis ...

---
John Arthur Nichol
I have to use my middle name, cause others use the ends :)
Website: a href="https://johnarthurnichol.com" title="https://johnarthurnichol.com" target="_blank"johnarthurnichol.com/a]]>

They're Drilling Beneath My Window

<![CDATA[The place I live in borders a car park and two buildings slated for redevelopment as yet another pile of home units. Two piles, in fact, because they're spreading them across two buildings.!--more--

When I say borders, I mean they touch. Physically.

This morning began with a noise of machinery and associated clanking, and right outside my window a drill shaft was rising slowly, pausing, and descending again. They've done this before, but way out in the middle of the car park. This time they're about as close as they can get. The drill makes a constant sound, so it's not as #frustrating as the #pointless, stop-start whine of a leaf-blower, but it is loud.

And once they start, they stay all day.

The original plan for this new wonder block was to build it right up against my wall. It would have blocked my only windows, but they proposed a single light well that would allow one window a distant glimpse of the sky, if only the window could lift its head. True developer-creativity in action.

I don't know why they keep #drilling deep, deep below the surface, but we're right on sea-level here, and I keep hoping they'll be driven away by sea-water gushing from the top of their rig and flooding their site. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm not giving up.

#MyWritingSpace #NotGivingUp

---
John Arthur Nichol
I have to use my middle name, cause others use the ends :)
Website: a href="https://johnarthurnichol.com" title="https://johnarthurnichol.com" target="_blank"johnarthurnichol.com/a]]>

My Very Serious Book Promotion

<![CDATA[This morning I created three modules of A+ content on the #Kindle store. The modules are to enhance the product listing page for my book, Sascha Martin's Christmas Eve.!--more--

I'm launching an #Amazon Ads campaign to promote the book, and the Amazon Ads people recommend adding A+ content in order to boost the campaign's chances of success.

I don't know what I'm doing with these modules, but I'm getting better at doing it :) Who knows where they will display or show up, and under what circumstances? Not me. Amazon suggests that seven days may be needed for them to review the modules before they can be applied to my book. Sigh.

The last module I did is the best, I think. It features the full colour illustration from the front cover, with headlines above and below followed by a brief teaser.

Meanwhile, Amazon Ads have written to say that the ad campaign itself is eligible to be served on Amazon. But what does that mean? I'm about to go back into the system and try to understand.

A little bit later ...

I've found my way into Campaign Management, and my ad campaign is running. 134 impressions so far, no clicks, no sales.
